520 Newport Center features a distinctive kinetic sculpture by renowned artist George Rickey. The three-dimensional structure constructed of stainless steel is on display in the courtyard near the parking garage.
Born in 1907, George Rickey was originally a painter who later became a sculptor, spending three decades developing structures consisting of lines, planes, rotors, volumes, and churns, moving in paths that change from simple oscillation to conical gyrations. Many of his works during this period became large-scale public commissions in the U.S., Europe and Japan.
Famed artist Tom Van Sant brings the local wildlife of Southern California to Newport Center in the creation of 40 unique sculptured concrete panels representing the diverse inhabitants of the region, past and present. Commissioned by Irvine Company in 1968, the collection includes 1,200 square feet located at 520 Newport Center, Pacific Financial Plaza and Irvine Company’s headquarters at 550 Newport Center Drive.
Born in 1931, Van Sant is a sculptor, painter and conceptual artist with a vast collection including more than sixty major sculpture and mural commissions for public spaces around the world.
